The 2021 Global Parliamentary Workshop on April 5-6, 2021 will be an occasion for legislators from around the world to engage in a dialogue with World Bank and IMF senior management to share lessons learned and strategies looking forward to achieve a sustainable and inclusive COVID-19 recovery and strong country outcomes.
This year’s event, titled “From the Pandemic to the Paris Agreement: How to avoid a great divergence” will encourage international and multilateral collaboration and exchange in creating a greener and more equitable future. It will be opened by World Bank Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnership Mari Pangestu and IMF Deputy Managing Director Antoinette Sayeh with two highly interactive sessions on:
· April 5 – Getting to the end of the tunnel to look at lessons learned from the recovery so far, explore policy priorities and risks, and how legislators can work with the World Bank and IMF to synchronize fiscal and monetary support with the vaccine roll-out.
· April 6 – From Lockdown to Lift-off to discuss how to build fairer, smarter, greener economies, and how countries can deal with high debt and high deficit while mobilizing the resources to finance global development goals, strengthen human capital, and fight climate change.
The second Meeting of the World Bank Global Young MP Initiative will also be held on April 7, 2021 to gather prominent parliamentarians age 40 and under from across the globe to share and define innovative strategies to address development challenges facing youth. The meeting will focus on how to leverage technology for improved governance, transparency and development outcomes to build and strengthen trust in democracy among youth.
Parliamentarians can register here for both events.
