More than 80 countries worldwide have announced new cash transfer programs as part of their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Setting up of these programs is constrained by the existing infrastructure – including available databases and registries, quality and coverage of the identification system, and the state of financial inclusion. Authorities and program managers may face several challenges in identifying the beneficiaries, setting up effective payment mechanisms, and promptly disburse the funds.
This webinar will present some of the early experiences to date, the critical challenges in setting up cash transfer programs during a crisis, and the international guidance available to authorities and social protection programs managers to overcome these challenges.
