East Asian firms have been severely impacted by COVID-19, and policy makers are exploring the most efficient and effective interventions to help firms maintain financing to cope with the severe drop in economic activity in the wake of the crisis. Panelists will discuss the impact of the crisis and various policy initiatives on the functioning, resilience, and stability of the financial system. Ilhyock Shim will discuss the collapse of financial markets in emerging economies, and Sergio Schmukler will discuss options to finance firms in East Asia during the crisis. Yi Huang and Joseph Cherian will discuss the cases of China and Singapore respectively and their policy responses to maintain firm finance.
This webinar is being hosted by the World Bank Group Knowledge and Research Hub in Malaysia, the FCI Global Practice, and the Development Research Group as part of their webinar series on addressing the impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
