Big Data for a More Resilient Future

In today’s digital world, data is being generated, stored and analyzed at unprecedented rates. This deluge of data has prompted decision makers to consider how Big Data can help solve their toughest challenges. This event will explore the potential of Big Data and Internet of Things technologies to solve development challenges related to risk and resilience, and also feature a hands-on exhibit with nano-satellites, data visualizations and projects utilizing IoT devices such as satellites and drones.

With decreased costs of computing and storage and increased capabilities to analyze large sets of data, we are seeing a rise in Big Data and Internet of Things technologies being used across a variety of sectors, with striking implications for development and building more resilient societies.  

This event will explore the potential of Big Data and Internet of Things technologies to solve development challenges related to risk and resilience. The event will feature a hands-on exhibit with nano-satellites, data visualizations and projects utilizing IoT devices such as satellites and drones. 

Moderator: 

  • Raj Kumar, CEO and Founder of Devex

    Raj Kumar is the founding President & Editor-in-Chief of Devex, the media platform for the global development community.  A social entrepreneur and digital media executive, he's been a part of nine presidential campaigns and was a co-founder of a successful financial information company.  Raj saw the world-shaping potential of Devex while a graduate student at the Harvard Kennedy School and promptly dropped out to build it.  He has been profiled in Forbes, the Financial Times, Foreign Policy, and the Washington Post, where Devex was called the Bloomberg of foreign aid. Raj is also an active investor in ground-breaking startups, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Clinton Global Initiative, and chair of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on humanitarian relief.
