Carbon Expo brings policymakers, investors, and the private sector together to explore new markets, policy trends, and innovative financial instruments. The theme for this year’s Carbon Expo is The Global Crossroad for Climate Policy Development.
Climate change is already threatening to roll back years of development progress, and the global community recognizes the urgency for closing the gap between current climate trajectories and lower carbon emission levels to address this challenge. Mitigation is essential to shift economic development away from carbon-intensive growth to low-carbon and sustainable development. Adaptation is also important as countries deal with the effects of climate change around the world in extreme weather events, increasing temperatures, and rising sea levels. Work to address this challenge is underway at the local, national, regional, and international efforts, as well as through the leadership of investor and private-sector groups.
During Carbon Expo, the World Bank Group launched its State and Trends of Carbon Pricing 2014 report, which examines carbon pricing systems in place and being developed around the world.
This year’s program includes over 220 speakers in nine high-level panels and 27 in-depth workshops divided into three streams:
- Resilience
- Climate Finance
- Green technology
