MetroLab – Seoul Global Exchange
April 28-May 01, 2014Seoul, South Korea

The Global Lab on Metropolitan Strategic Planning (MetroLab)–Seoul Global Exchange brings together city leaders to discuss city planning challenges and innovations.

Worldwide, urban development is expanding beyond boundaries encompassing multiple cities, states and provinces, giving rise to the need for strategic planning at the metropolitan level to ensure services are delivered efficiently and sustainably.

In response, the Global Lab on Metropolitan Strategic Planning (MetroLab) was launched in New York in April 2013 to help cities learn from each other, promoting knowledge sharing about successful innovations in metropolitan planning and governance. Over the course of the year, numerous virtual meetings and webinars have been convened and a community of practice is being developed.

The Seoul Global Exchange brings together city leaders from a dynamic and diverse group of members at all stages of development – Seoul, New York, Paris, Barcelona, Ulaanbaatar, Bandung, Karachi, Mumbai, Sao Paulo, Guadalajara, Dar es Salaam, Accra, Addis Ababa, and Nairobi – to engage in discussions to address their concerns, including metropolitan planning, development and urban transformations; metropolitan transport and land use; city e-government; and metropolitan economy.

The host city Seoul offers a "laboratory for learning," with site visits to see the impressive results of the city’s efforts in urban regeneration and transportation, to inspire the week’s discussions.

MetroLab–Seoul Global Exchange is organized by the World Bank, World Bank Institute, and Seoul Metropolitan Government. The events on Tuesday, April 29, are open to the public.

Opening day events on Tuesday, April 29, at the Seoul Global Center Building are open to the public. Other events are for member cities only.
