Theme Three: Enhancing Public Sector Management


Malaysia has had a strong history of strategic planning and performance management that has contributed to effective frontline service delivery across many parts of the public sector. Malaysia’s historical experiences and more recent public sector innovations are of interest to low and middle-income developing countries alike.

The work on this theme is led by the World Bank Governance Global Practice. Within this, our work focuses on documenting and disseminating lessons gained from the Malaysian public sector performance experience. The objectives in this theme are:

  1. Serve as knowledge broker between developing countries and advanced OECD countries
  2. Provide technical assistance and knowledge generation in selected public financial management areas in collaboration with the government of Malaysia
  3. Facilitate peer-to-peer learning through a Planning Community of Practice
  4. Contribute to strengthening public investment management in Malaysia and across the region through targeted technical assistance, diagnostic missions, conferences and seminars on global best practices
