Lithuania
BY THE NUMBERS: LITHUANIA
OVERVIEW: LITHUANIA
Lithuania is a committed shareholder and partner of the World Bank Group. It is represented at the Board by an Executive Director shared with the other Nordic and Baltic countries.
Lithuania became a member of the World Bank Group in 1992, a few years after regaining independence, and received its first loan shortly thereafter. In less than two decades, Lithuania became both a member and donor to IDA, the World Bank’s fund for the poorest countries. Today, it is actively engaged across all five institutions of the WBG, working with other member governments to finance projects, shape policies, and deliver programs aimed at eradicating poverty on a livable planet.
The World Bank’s Nordic Baltic Desk, based in the Paris Office, promotes collaboration between Lithuania and the WBG. It supports outreach activities in partnership with Lithuanian stakeholders, including conferences, seminars, and other events on development-related topics. The desk also serves as an entry point for Lithuanian groups seeking to engage with World Bank staff or access the Bank’s published resources, and it responds to media queries.
Lithuania’s commitment to international development is reflected in its active participation across all five institutions of the WBG.
