About the Human Capital Program-for-Results (PforR) Project
The PforR supports major human capital reforms in Georgia in the area of education, health, social protection and employment. It aims to make the human capital delivery system in Georgia more efficient, inclusive and connected. The project is prepared by the Government of Georgia with the support from the World Bank.
What is the Environmental and Social Systems Assessment (ESSA)?
The ESSA examines Georgia’s environmental and social management systems to assess their consistency with the World Bank’s policies and principles. It aims to ensure that the PforR’s environmental and social risks will be managed adequately and that the PforR complies with the basic principles of sustainable development.
This particular ESSA has been undertaken by the World Bank in collaboration with the Government of Georgia as part of the preparation for Georgia’s Human Capital PforR financing.
The preparation of the ESSA and the development of measures to strengthen Georgia’s environmental and social management systems have benefited from various desk-based reviews and legal analysis as well as consultation with Georgian stakeholders.
Online Consultations
The draft ESSA is disclosed to the public in order to solicit inputs from interested parties, particularly on the following:
- Are Georgia’s national systems for managing the PforR’s main social and environmental impacts adequately described and analyzed?
- Are the proposed actions included in the ESSA Action Plan adequate to (1) mitigate identified social and environmental impacts and (2) strengthen the national system for managing identified environmental and social risks?
