Tehmina Khan is the Lead Economist/Program Leader for Economic Policy, Governance, Poverty and Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation for Ethiopia, Sudan and S Sudan at the World Bank. Based in Addis Ababa, she is leading budget support operations supporting the Government of Ethiopia on the implementation of macroeconomic and structural reforms needed for more inclusive and sustainable growth, and has also led the preparation of Ethiopia’s Country Climate and Development Report (Ethiopia CCDR, 2024). She brings with her many years of experience as a macro-/country economist from the East Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Eastern Europe regions and was also a lead author of the World Bank flagship Global Economic Prospects Report. Her previous assignment was Ukraine, where she helped to mobilize rapid financing support by the Bank and development partners following the outbreak of war. Before joining the Bank, she worked at the IMF, and at Capital Economics in London. Tehmina’s research interests are varied, ranging from labour and commodity markets to tax policy and she has previously published in the Economic Journal. Tehmina holds M.Phil and PhD degrees in Economics from Nuffield College, University of Oxford.
