Shireen Mahdi


Shireen Mahdi is the World Bank’s Lead Economist for Brazil.  Shireen, a UK and Somali national, is a PhD economist with over fifteen years of professional experience. She joined the World Bank in 2011 and has held positions in technical departments across three regions (Middle East, East Asia and Africa). Prior to joining the World Bank, Shireen worked as a technical expert for the UK Department for International Development, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). Shireen holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester and a Master’s degree from the University of London – SOAS. She speaks English, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian and Somali.
