Omar Lyasse

Resident Representative for the North Pacific

Mr. Omar Lyasse is the World Bank’s Resident Representative for the North Pacific and is responsible for the World Bank’s partnerships with the governments of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. From July 2024, Mr. Lyasse has been based in the new sub-regional office in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.

Mr. Lyasse, a Belgian national, joined the World Bank in 2006, holding various positions across different countries and regions, including as a Senior Agriculture Economist in the Africa and South Asia Regions and as a Senior Country Officer in the Latin American and Caribbean Region (LCR). Before joining the World Bank, Mr. Lyasse served as a Country Program Manager for a Flemish Development Agency (Belgium) in Suriname and Zambia

Prior to moving to the Pacific, Mr. Lyasse was the Senior Operations Officer for the World Bank’s Sustainable Development Practice Group for the Middle East and North Africa Region and was instrumental in the management and monitoring of the sustainable development portfolio for several sectors in that region.

Mr. Lyasse holds a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences from the Faculty of Agriculture and Applied Biological Sciences, Catholic University Leuven, Belgium.
