Olga Fuentes, a Chilean national, is Executive Director at the World Bank Group (WBG), representing the constituency of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay since November 1, 2024. Previously, she was Alternate Executive Director representing the same constituency for the past two years.

Dr. Fuentes is a distinguished economist with extensive experience in the global research, international affairs, public policy, regulation and supervision of institutional investors. She recently received an honor recognition for Public Service awarded by the University of Chile Economics and Business School.              

Prior to joining the WBG Board, she was Head of Strategic Research and International Affairs at the Chilean Pension Regulator and Deputy Chair of Regulation and Head of the Research Division in the same institution.

Dr. Fuentes served as Vice-President of the International Organization of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) and delegate of the Chilean government to the OECD Working Party of Private Pensions. She has collaborated with OECD and IOPS on many research papers. She was also the Pension Regulator representative in the Chilean Green Finance Working Group, responsible for advancing the incorporation of climate change into the investment risk management of institutional investors.

Previously, Dr. Fuentes was Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance (2007-2009) and worked at the Central Bank of Chile as an economist in the area of International Finance and as a Research Analyst at a major Chilean Stock Broker. She has been a consultant for the IADB, speaker in international conferences on economics and finance issues, and published papers and articles on pensions, financial education, financial inclusion, investments, pension risk, experimental evaluations, unemployment insurance, labor, applied micro-econometrics and applied macroeconomics.

She has a degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Chile. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University.
