Matteo Morgandi, is the Human Development Lead for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. During his career Matteo worked across several regions in operations and labor market analytics. He coordinated the Bank’s operational and analytical engagement in Brazil on labor and social assistance, including on the reform of the Bolsa Familia CCT, unemployment insurance and labor market programs. Matteo first joined the SPJ GP in 2008 as a Junior Professional Associate in the MENA region, and returned as Young Professional in 2011. Matteo’s areas of interest and prior work include labor market analytics, public employment services, activation of social safety nets beneficiaries, tax-benefit systems, and leveraging administrative data for policy insights. Prior to joining the Bank, Matteo worked with the International Labor Organization, Caritas Italy, and UNICEF. Matteo holds a MA in Development Economics from SAIS, Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Development Studies (Development economics) from The Graduate Institute, Geneva.
