Matteo Bugamelli, an Italian national, is the Executive Director at the Board of the Executive Directors of the World Bank Group representing Albania, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, San Marino, and Timor-Leste since 2020. He currently serves as chair of the World Bank Audit Committee.
Immediately before joining the WBG Board, Mr. Bugamelli was Director in the Research Department and Coordinator of the Regional Research Branches in the Bank of Italy. Coming with over 20 years of experience working with the Bank of Italy.
Mr. Bugamelli has participated in working groups at the European Central Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Commission, and Eurostat. He has also authored and co-authored several articles on International Trade, International Migration and Remittances, and Firm Behavior.
Mr. Bugamelli holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Bologna (Italy) and a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, New York. He was a visiting scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley.
