Marco Hernandez


Marco Hernandez is a Manager at the World Bank for the Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment Global Practice, covering Eastern and Southern Africa (based in South Africa). His team of country economists support 14 countries.

Mr. Hernandez has held various positions at the World Bank, working as an economist in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Europe. In these positions, he has led the World Bank’s policy dialogue with client countries on a broad range of economic policy issues, managing operations, technical assistance, and advisory services, and undertaking analytical work on several development topics. His research interests and publications cover economic growth, macroeconomics, fiscal policy, trade, behavioral economics, and political economy.

Before joining the World Bank, Mr. Hernandez worked as an economist at Charles River Associates International, based in Boston, and as a consultant for the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Peru.

Born in Lima, Peru, Mr. Hernandez holds a B.S. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
