Elliot W. Mghenyi is Lead Agriculture Economist and Acting Program Leader in the World Bank’s Planet Practice Group. His main responsibilities are to coordinate the World Bank’s agriculture and food portfolio in Ethiopia and South Sudan, and to contribute to global knowledge and policy dialogue on food systems transformation. Elliot is a trained agricultural, food and resource economist with deep and broad expertise in agribusiness and food systems transformation, agricultural and rural policy, natural resources management, and climate smart agriculture. He has worked extensively across East Asia, South Asia, West Africa, and East and Southern Africa, including leading complex regional investment programs and providing technical assistance and advisory services to countries and regional organizations. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics from Michigan State University and has published widely in this field.
