Akka Rimon leads the World Bank’s Liaison Office in Bairiki, Kiribati. She coordinates support between the World Bank Team and the Government of Kiribati to implement agreed International Development Association investments, including a portfolio of infrastructural engagements in the water, health, outer islands, economic reform and ICT sectors.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Ms. Rimon was the Secretary of the Kiribati Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration. She had worked in Government as a public administrator for more than 15 years.
She holds a Master of Public Administration and Public Policy from the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney and was the first I-Kiribati woman to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism and political studies.
Ms. Rimon’s research interests include analyzing labor mobility schemes in the Pacific and how these could provide an option for economic adaptation to climate-induced displacement for Kiribati.
