During his visit, David Malpass had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed Russia’s efforts toward stepping up international cooperation, including climate, global public goods, and a green transition. “The discussion was focused on Russia’s cooperation with the WBG as well as prospects for the Bank’s involvement in the modernization of Russia’s economy, social sphere, and infrastructure, wider use of digital technology,” the Kremlin statement said.
WBG President also had a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation between Russia and the WBG. The meeting was “focused on matters relating to the climate agenda, measures to eliminate poverty, the coordination of efforts to facilitate international development, using Russia’s experience in the sphere of cost-effective state administration and the implementation of advanced mechanisms for providing government services to other World Bank member countries”, the Russian Government statement said.
David Malpass also took part in the 2021 St. Petersburg Economic Forum and delivered a speech at the opening session.
