From October 21 to 26, 2024, the World Bank Group and the IMF held their Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C. The Russian delegation, led by Deputy Finance Minister and Alternate Governor for the Russian Federation at the World Bank Ivan Chebeskov, engaged in key discussions on global economic challenges and cooperation for development.
On October 21-22, the Executive Director’s Office represented Syria at the G24 Meetings, contributing to discussions on equitable economic growth and financial inclusivity.
On October 23, during the BRICS Networking Meeting, the Russian delegation discussed opportunities for strengthening financial and economic partnerships among BRICS nations. That day also included a bilateral meeting between Vice President for Middle East and North Africa Ousmane Dione and Executive Director Roman Marshavin, focusing on matters concerning Syria.
The following day, Ivan Chebeskov represented Russia at the G20 meeting, which focused on global resource mobilization for climate change and collaboration on financial stability.
On October 25, Roman Marshavin represented Russia and Syria at the Annual Meetings Plenary and Development Committee’s plenary. A statement from Russian Governor Alexey Overchuk is available on the Development Committee’s website.
On October 26, on behalf of Syria, the Executive Director’s Office participated in the Arab Governors meeting with President Ajay Banga.
Besides that, throughout the week, Executive Director Roman Marshavin participated in the Human Capital Project Ministerial Conclave, as well as various events on development in Africa, discussing topics including water security, energy access (Mission 300), and other regional development challenges.
Also, the Regular Election of Directors has ended on October 25, 2024, and we are pleased to welcome Republic of Belarus as the third country that our office represents starting November 1, 2024.
