WASHINGTON - July 3, 2024 - Accountability is at the core of the World Bank’s value proposition as premier development financial institution.
Accordingly, the World Bank Board of Executive Directors (the Board) who strongly support a robust accountability mechanism, commissioned an External Review of the 2018 and 2020 Reforms to the Inspection Panel Toolkit and Creation of the World Bank Accountability Mechanism. In January 2024, the Board approved the terms of reference (TOR) for the External Review and appointed an independent External Review Team (ERT) - comprised of Arntraud Hartmann, Cindy Petitt, and Eduardo Abbott - to conduct this review.

The External Review Team has produced an independent external Draft Report and Recommendations which is being shared on behalf of the ERT. The Draft Report and Recommendations which have not been adopted, approved, or endorsed by the World Bank nor its Board of Executive Directors, are being made public for the sole purpose to provide feedback to the ERT. The independent External Review Team now seeks written feedback on its Draft Report and Recommendations from interested external stakeholders. Comments should be sent in writing (to the email address below) by no later than August 1, 2024.
Additionally, the ERT will be conducting the following three virtual information sessions (in English) to provide an opportunity for interested external stakeholders to ask questions and seek clarifications. To facilitate participation, these sessions will be held at three different times (suitable for the Americas, Asia, Europe/Africa). Non-DC times are listed as an example.

Please note that to be considered, oral comments shared during these information sessions must subsequently be provided in writing before the August 1, 2024 deadline to be considered.

The ERT will review written comments received and independently assess what, if any, adjustments will be made to its Report before finalizing it and submitting it to the Board.
