Creating Impact through Inclusive Sourcing

A sustainable supply chain is one that is resilient, innovative, and representative of our staff, the communities in which we operate, and the countries we are working to support.   We are committed to promoting, increasing, and improving the business participation of all groups in our procurement process and across our supply chain, in all countries in which we operate.

By expanding and enriching our supply chain, we utilize new suppliers that increase competition, resiliency, and agility. In addition, we contribute to broader economic development goals by creating jobs, increasing GDP, and contributing to tax bases.

Our Journey

The World Bank Group started its inclusive sourcing journey in 2017, with the initial focus of increasing WBG’s corporate procurement with women-owned businesses, and in 2020 established goals for procurement in the US with other disadvantaged businesses.

The WBG has successfully met its initial 5-year target of more than doubling our global corporate procurement with women-owned businesses. Information on job creation, and GDP growth will be shared shortly. We have also established new goals to amplify this impact in more countries and economies, taking a phased approach.

Information for Potential Suppliers

A more inclusive supply chain is aligned with WBG procurement principles.

Corporate Procurement strives to provide opportunities for all suppliers considering our principles of Fairness, Transparency, Competition, Best Business Judgement, and Best Value. We transparently advertise competitive business opportunities for goods, services and consulting services.  All suppliers working with the WBG need to comply with the vendor eligibility policy  to register and become an approved World Bank Group vendor.

Our Approach

To become a WBG Supplier, all companies need to be registered in our WBGeProcure Supplier Database.

Suppliers are encouraged to disclose in our Supplier Self Registration tool as much information as they can, as that will help them in preparing a strong application and will support the WBG in better understanding the economic impact of our spend in the countries we operate.

The WBG currently recognizes accreditations from third-party certification organizations (such as WBENC, WEConnect International, NMSDC, SASDC, MSDUK, etc.) as well as equivalent Federal, State, and Local Certification bodies. If you are not certified by any of these organizations, please upload relevant documentation to document the ownership of the company. If you have questions about the eligibility of your company, please reach out to corporateprocurement@worldbank.org and we will help you.

By completing your supplier self-registration application your company will have:

  • Access to Opportunities: Registered vendors can access and respond to a wide range of procurement opportunities offered by the WBG.
  • Visibility: Being in the WBG database increases a vendor's visibility to the various procurement teams within the organization.
  • Streamlined Process: Once registered, vendors can participate in solicitations more easily, as their basic information is already in the system.
  • Outreach Programs: Vendors may receive notifications about upcoming events and outreach programs for diverse-owned businesses, changes in procurement policies, or specific opportunities that align with their services or products.

Other Ways to Participate in our Inclusive Sourcing Programs

Any company working with the WBG can still be a champion and algin with the WBGs mission to promote inclusive and sustainable procurement practices, by:

  • fostering an innovative team composition, by assembling a team that complies with our requirements and reflects a broad range of backgrounds and perspectives will benefit your organization with a wide variety of insights and ideas, contributing to a stronger proposal and delivery of work/services.
  • engaging in subcontracting, when possible, and transparently reporting to our annual Tier 2 program exercise. This will increase the economic impact and jobs created by the work your organization is performing to the WBG – learn more about tier 2 here   These efforts contribute to a culture of inclusion and  extends  beyond the company's own walls and into the broader marketplace.
