The study intends to support the state of Kerala in its transition towards a low-carbon economy by developing biomethane production from waste streams; as well as other biomass sources; simultaneously solving issues associated with biodegradable waste treatment while developing local production of non-fossil fuel alternatives. The main objectives consist of the following:a) Raise awareness on biogas generation from waste streams among local (Kerala) stakeholders; including private sector.b) Evaluate feedstock availability across the various sources within Kerala (urban; agricultural; and industrial); including biogas potential and mobilization strategy. c) Determine market for large-scale biogas across the main end-use sectors including transport; heating and cooking; specifically identifying drivers and roadblocks along the value chain.d) Prepare Monitoring; Reporting; and Verification (MRV) plan; and evaluation of climate co-benefits depending on end-use scenarios.
