The main objective of this consultancy assignment under the PROBLUE-supported activity targets at exploring modern cost-effective solutions for greening ports in Sri Lanka. The assignment entails technical; technology; safety; environmental; social; regulatory; financial and economic analysis for greening of selected ports in Sri Lanka. This objective is closely aligned with the country’s overarching strategies for achieving long-term sustainable development and coping with climate change challenges. The assignment outcomes will inform the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) (mainly the Ministry of Ports; Shipping; and Aviation; Ministry of Environment; Ministry of Energy; Ministry of Economy and Trade; and Ministry of Finance) and the World Bank/ International Finance Corporation (IFC) on (i) technological and engineering options and solutions for greening ports; (ii) potential investment opportunities and funding sources for mobilizing financial resources; (iii) optimal modalities for achieving environmental sustainability; reinforcing climate resilience and minimizing carbon footprints around seaports and ocean shipping; and (iv) directions for reforms and improvement.
