The objective of the study is to provide IFC with a better understanding of the submarine cable sector and identify suitable investment opportunities. To this end; the study will be divided in three broad areas: (i) a market and technical assessment; (ii) a regulatory and structuring assessment; and (iii) the mapping of potential investment opportunities for IFC and development of an investability tool to assess such opportunities.Upon completion of the study; IFC will have a comprehensive understanding of business models; and gain access to information about market dynamics; trends; and key players and their respective strategies. IFC will also have a comprehensive understanding of structuring options and gain knowledge of the key regulatory prerequisites needed for the deployment of submarine cable projects; including a focus on specific target regions. This information will underpin IFC’s prioritization and decision making and support IFC in advancing its investment and pre-investment project pipeline.
