This year’s theme for International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022, is Breaking Barriers: Building Better Opportunities for Women in South Asia. The World Bank South Asia Team is celebrating women and girls all around the world through a robust campaign to promote and accelerate action towards gender equality in South Asia.
The World Bank’s Group commitment to gender equality is consolidated in our World Bank Group Gender Strategy. In the South Asia Region, we are committed to supporting and amplifying efforts to build more and better opportunities for women and girls in every sector. For the month of March, we are convening a series of events and activities to celebrate women in South Asia as leaders who are breaking barriers and are crossing over into male- dominated sectors as workers and owners.
The campaign is part of the World Bank Group’s yearlong Gender Equality and Development +10: Accelerate Equality initiative, which explores the important progress made and lessons learned over the last 10 years in closing gender gaps and promoting girl's and women's empowerment for transformative change in the future.
