World Bank Living Standards Measurement Study High-Frequency Phone Surveys

The Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) is supporting longitudinal high-frequency phone surveys in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda to routinely monitor the socio-economic impacts of shocks.

Initially motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic, high-frequency phone surveys have been rolled out rapidly since 2020 across low- and middle-income countries with limited experience with phone-based data collection.

The LSMS, with funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Global Financing Facility, and in collaboration with the World Bank Poverty and Equity Global Practice (GP), is providing financial and technical assistance to longitudinal high-frequency phone surveys across Africa.
