WASHINGTON, April 16, 2014 – The global partnership program Connect4Climate has joined forces with Vimeo to promote the creative contents generated by Connect4Climate’s Action4Climate competition and spearhead the climate change conversation.

Dedicated to driving climate action in local communities, the Action4Climate video contest asked young aspiring filmmakers worldwide, ages 14 to 35, to produce and submit a 1-12 minute video documentary telling a story about climate change, solutions for change, and ideas for solving the climate challenge.

The contest, which closed on April 1 and received over 230 submissions from around the world, is now in the hands of its renowned jury lead by Italian film director and screenwriter, Bernardo Bertolucci.

Lucia Grenna, Connect4Climate Program Manager, explains: “It is a story of drought in Sub-Saharan Africa, floods in Southeast Asia, extreme weather and regret from the Philippines. It is a story of advancing climate solutions. There is a face to be shown and a story to be told. Our commitment is to empower youth, share their experience and solutions, and bring local stories to a global audience.”

Vimeo has come on board as the preferred video platform partner of the competition. As part of the partnership Vimeo will promote the best videos through the platform’s social channels and provide thirty finalists with Vimeo Plus accounts to be awarded at the upcoming Action4Climate Award Ceremony in October 2014.

“Video is a powerful medium for driving awareness on a global scale and we’re excited to be working with Connect4Climate and to support the call for climate solutions around the world,” said Vimeo President Dae Mellancamp.

Connect4Climate aims to raise global consciousness about climate change in line with the World Bank’s twin mission to end extreme poverty within a generation and boost shared prosperity. As World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim has said, “We will never end poverty if we don’t tackle climate change.” Today, the World Bank Group is helping 130 countries take action on climate change in a variety of ways: From replacing 45 million inefficient light bulbs in Mexico, to providing solar energy for 1.4 million homes in Bangladesh.
