WASHINGTON, December 15, 2017 - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved: Additional Financing to support the Agriculture Commercialization Project in Tajikistan.

Commitment Amount: US$15 million equivalent (half in IDA credit and half in IDA grant).

Project Description: The project development objective is to increase the commercialization of farm and agribusiness products and to support micro, small and medium enterprise development in project areas by providing better access to finance and strengthened capacity of project beneficiaries. With additional financing approved today, the project will also support activities aimed at (i) increasing the amount of credit line available for agribusiness enterprises and small scale commercial farms and expanding its scope to support a broader range of rural business activities; (ii) making a matching grant program available to support the entrance of new and young enterprises to the market; (iii) supporting capacity building training for existing participating microcredit institutions on rural business financing, as well as for selected smaller micro-finance institutions with good potential to grow; and (iv) providing entrepreneurship training and business development services to startups and more experienced small and medium enterprises.
