This diagnostic seeks to examine linkages between South Africa’s coal transition; its emerging investment priorities; its climate ambitions; and its efforts to reduce gender inequality. This diagnostic is intended to identify gender-responsive actions that investors and private companies could take today; building on the long-term recommendations outlined in documents such as the South Africa Country Climate Development Report (CCDR); broader policy framework proposed under the NDC and the Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETP). In addition; the diagnostic is intended to provide deep dives into several high priority climate sectors to investigate gender gaps in employment; entrepreneurship; and leadership; providing a view of current gender trends in sectors that are likely to be targeting for future investment as South Africa addresses energy insecurity and transitions away from coal.
